Some Surprising FAQs About Lip Injections

lip injectableLip injections are one of the most common types of dermatological procedures today.  As the trend for a full-bodied look continues to sweep across fashion magazines, runways and blogs, having a pair of voluptuous lips is a great place to start. It’s understandable why lip injections are so popular: they are affordable compared with laser or surgical procedures, and the effects of a lip augmentation will not last forever.

Given that lip injections are already so popular, it is worth going over some of the basic FAQs that might actually surprise some people.  Of course all this information is available at a skin care doctor clinic, in Grosse Pointe or Sterling Heights.  Lip injections are truly the foundation of an excellent cosmetic dermatology clinic, and there are a lot of things to know about them!

The most common and safest filling agent – Hyaluronic acid is used in most of the injectables to bring form and volume to lips.  It exists throughout the body as a coating agent around cartilage and as a major component in skin tissue repair.  This explains why there is minimal swelling and discomfort in the lips following the procedure.  The body is familiar with HA and the lips are essential viscous tissue anyways, so the integration of more viscous tissue is quite seamless.

It Does Not Feel Too Different From Normal Lips – This is great news for those worried about how augmented lips will feel.  The difference in sensation might be quite noticeable after the first injection, but pretty quickly sensation will return to normality.

The Injection Can Be Erased If It’s Not Satisfactory – This is another reason why using HA is ideal for lip augmentation.  If, for whatever reason, a patient is not satisfied with their new look, the dermatologist can inject an eraser enzyme, hyaluronidase, that will dissolve the HA present in the lips. While the HA will naturally gradually decrease its presence over time, it can stimulate more natural hydration and plumping.  Patients should expect to enjoy more fullness for up to 1 year in most cases before touch up treatment is necessary.
